Popular home and garden show to feature backyard chickens this year!
Richmond, VA February 1st 2014: With Backyard Hens now legal in Richmond, this year’s 38th Annual Richmond Home and Garden Show plans to celebrate by featuring a Chicken Stimulus Package to help integrate more family flocks in urban gardens. Three hundred female baby chicks will find new homes over the show’s three days from Feb 28th to March 2nd through an soption program offered by the Gossamer Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to global sustainability and local foods.
The chicks, donated by Murray McMurray Hatchery, includes a “flockette” of four heritage breed members: Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Americana and Plymouth Barred Rock and will be given away to qualified adoptee families who attend the show. (click here for full details)
